Cracked or severely worn teeth can cause discomfort and keep you from smiling and chewing properly. Left untreated, you could experience acute pain or an awkwardly broken tooth. Dr. Heher applies custom, esthetically pleasing crowns, inlays, and onlays (also known as partial crowns) to renew and strengthen damaged smiles.
A crown, also sometimes referred to as a "cap," sits atop a compromised tooth to restore structural integrity and protect against further damage. Dr. Heher uses either all-ceramic, porcelain-fused-to-gold, and/or gold crowns. He'll consider tooth location and stressors to determine the best and most esthetically pleasing or functional material for your restoration.
Custom crowns can take up to three visits to design and place. Dr. Heher will examine your smile, take a dental impression, and fit you with a customized temporary crown. A skilled ceramist at one of our trusted and certified labs will hand make your crown in a shade matching your natural tooth color. When your dental work is completed, Dr. Heher will remove the temporary crown and permanently attach your crown restoring your beautiful, healthy smile.
Dr. Heher may recommend an inlay or onlay if your damaged tooth doesn't require a full crown but needs more restoration to withstand chewing forces than a filling can provide. An inlay fits within the cusps, or bumps, of a tooth. An onlay covers one or more bumps. Like crowns, inlays and onlays are custom restorations created specifically for your unique smile.
